The David Bowie estate and the NFT marketplace OpenSea confirmed a new NFT collection this week. Though several expressed concerns about the artist’s legacy and how NFTs fit into it, followers of the music star have taken to social media to express their anger at the collection. Notably, the entire net proceeds from the new David Bowie NFT collection will benefit CARE. The mission of this nonprofit group is to eradicate world hunger and poverty.

What is the NFT collection for David Bowie?

The initiative was developed by the David Bowie estate in association with OpenSea and the web3 firm We Love the Arts. Nine artists each paid tribute to the musician in the collection of NFT art called “Bowie on the Blockchain.”

The artists for the NFT collection were chosen by Andrew Keller and Joaquin Acrich, the founders of We Love the Arts. To choose emerging artists, they looked at the works of art that Bowie admired and found inspiring. To construct the David Bowie NFT collection, they eventually discovered nine extremely varied and unique artists.

The nine artists include Jonathan Wolfe, Fewocious, Jake, Defaced, Osinachi, Young and Sick, Lirona, and Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot.

OpenSea vice president of business development Ryan Foutty commented, “This remarkable collection brings together some of the most ground-breaking NFT artists with Bowie memorabilia to bring a new generation of fans together in Web3.”

Additionally, to add a personal touch to their works, these artists received exclusive access to the Bowie archives. On September 13th, the NFT project will become live on OpenSea.

Regarding the David Bowie NFT Collection, Twitter is Divided

On Twitter, the news of the David Bowie NFT collection has generated a lot of buzz. The initial tweet was actually deleted by the David Bowie account, probably as a result of the critical remarks.

“How about we just don’t with the NFT guff and just raise money for charity without utilising a pyramid scam,” one user, @bashmore, wrote in response to David Bowie’s official Twitter account.

@schlimmkatze, another user, replied to the post with the more direct message “Stop this.”

David Bowie, Would You Want NFTs?

Bowie wouldn’t enjoy NFTs is a recurring topic in the unfavourable responses to the NFT collection. But Bowie, who is regarded as one of the 20th century’s most influential musicians, was immensely inventive and forward-thinking. He had a unique experimental aesthetic that is still in use today.

Over the course of his legendary career, which lasted over five decades, David Bowie consistently reinvented himself. Bowie was a trailblazer who was constantly at the forefront of the newest great trends in music, art, and fashion. It’s true that some of the concepts and methods he employed had a profound impact on pop music and the music business.

The Music Industry is Shifting Because of Blockchain

Web3 and blockchain technologies are currently expanding at a phenomenal rate. NFTs are also used by people for a variety of purposes, such as by musicians who use Web3 to redefine music.

And finally, it’s hard to predict David Bowie’s thoughts on the NFT collection. The project does, however, have a silver lining for everyone, including the Twitter community, as all of the revenues will be donated to charity.
