Sony, one of the biggest manufacturers of electronics, has submitted a patent relating to NFTs and blockchain technology. It was just recently published after being first submitted in May 2021. What is the purpose of the Sony NFT patent, then?

Sony Patent Details

According to the patent, “Tracking Unique In-Game Digital Assets Using Tokens on a Distributed Ledger,” Sony may have plans to use tokens to track digital assets in video games in the future. Digital media depicting gaming scenes, like as photos or video clips, may also be included in the digital assets. The patent also contains numerous graphics that describe the procedure for keeping track of changes in ownership, external appearance, or metadata.

The Sony patent also explains why it’s common for people to like using or owning tangibles associated with famous people or pursuits. In other words, using the same item that their favorite players have used would be fun for video game gamers. According to Sony’s patent, “in traditional video games, there is no way to differentiate a specific instance of an in-game item that a famous video game player used to win a famous tournament from any other instance of the in-game item.”

Will There Ever Be Playstation NFTs?

Whether or not NFTs will ever be used in Sony’s video games is unknown. Despite the fact that it is clear that the electronics company is moving in that way. People are undoubtedly talking about the ability to trace the history of digital assets from player to player. Notably, Sony is responsible for some of the most well-known games, like Uncharted, God of War, Bloodborne, The Last of Us, and others. So, if Sony opted to implement these plans, they would be able to test them on high-quality titles. Is this something that video game players want, or not? For more NFT news, follow NFTeller.
